Welcome Back Letter
Dear Stukey Families,
Welcome back to the 2020-21 school year at Stukey Elementary! Thank you to all of you who were able to come to our Back to School Nights! We hope you received the essential information you have been looking for. I am both excited and delighted to be serving as your child’s principal for the third year! Ms. Kelly Fleck, our Assistant Principal, has taken on a remote position for the year. I wanted to introduce you to Stukey’s temporary Assistant Principal for the 20-21 school year, Ms. Helen Butts.
See below for her introduction:
I am very excited to join the community to support Ms. Voelker and the Stukey team for the 20-21 school year.
Each new school year, I have asked my students, what are your hopes and dreams? What do you see yourself learning and doing this school year? As we all navigate shifting schedules, locations and ways of learning, I am so excited to get to know each of you, to hear what everyone in the community is hoping for this school year and how I can help.
I have been in education for 22 years, including teaching in Baltimore, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Quito, Ecuador. I have worked in Denver Public Schools for the last eight years as a central office coordinator for English Language Acquisition, a regional support partner for 14 schools, and a school administrator for the last 4 years. I have a wonderful, supportive family. My husband and I have two college-aged children. Outside of work, I love anything to do with nature, and I’m an avid reader. I also love speaking Spanish.
Developing relationships and trust are everything. Whether electronically, or by phone or in person, please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself and strike up a conversation. I can’t wait to get to know you all!
Best, Helen Butts
